Sheng Qi (生氣)

Living qi — the favourable state, and one of the four directional categories in Eight Mansions. Sheng qi is the favourable state of qi: the condition of a place that supports what happens there. In the Eight Mansions method it is also the name of one of the four good directions, the one associated with growth and vitality.

It belongs to the classical vocabulary of the tradition. Living qi — the favourable state, and one of the four directional categories in Eight Mansions. The term carries two meanings in the sources — a general description of a healthy site and a specific directional category — and the tradition moves between them without always marking the shift.

The classical scheme sorts the eight directions into four favourable and four unfavourable categories for each person, and sheng qi is the strongest of the favourable four. The texts treat it as the direction to face for activity rather than for rest. It is grouped under Wood (木) in the five-element system.
