Flower

A flower is read as a brief result — something that appears at a particular stage and does not hold. Flowers are Wood at its most temporary. Traditional reading asks whether it is blooming or past, since the symbol is about stage rather than kind.

Natural features are read by state and conditions. A flower is read as a brief result — something that appears at a particular stage and does not hold. Traditional readings look at whether it is calm or disturbed, near or distant. A flower without scent — when the kind should have one — is a reported variant, read as the form present without the quality.

Sources read the flower by its season and by whether it was picked, and a picked flower is treated very differently from a growing one. It is grouped under Wood (木) in the five-element system.
