Garden

A garden is read as growth under intention — nature that somebody chose and keeps. Wood with a keeper. Traditional reading asks whether it is tended or overgrown, since the garden's meaning depends on maintenance.

Natural features are read by state and conditions. A garden is read as growth under intention — nature that somebody chose and keeps. Traditional readings look at whether it is calm or disturbed, near or distant. A garden you are tending that is not yours is a commonly reported variant, read as maintenance given to somebody else's growth.

Sources treat the garden as one of the clearest images of deliberate cultivation, and neglect in a garden carries specific weight. It is grouped under Wood (木) in the five-element system.
