Fire in a BaZi Chart
Fire appears in a chart as the heavenly stems 丙 and 丁, and as the earthly branches 巳 and 午. The pair of stems is the clearest illustration in the whole system of why yin and yang are not strong and weak: 丙 is the sun and 丁 is a candle, and neither is the lesser of the two.

At a glance
Fire appears in a chart as the stems 丙 and 丁 and the branches 巳 and 午 — the sun and the lamp, the peak and the first heat.
In the classical correspondence tables Fire governs summer and the south, the heart and small intestine, the tongue, and the bitter taste.
How Fire appears in a chart
丙 is yang Fire: the sun, the bonfire, the thing that is visible from a distance and cannot be looked at directly. 丁 is yin Fire: the lamp, the forge, the focused heat that does precise work. A chart with 丙 in a prominent position reads as public and broad; the same chart with 丁 reads as concentrated and intimate. Practitioners treat the substitution as a different chart, not a variation.
The branches carry the season. 巳 is the first summer month, yang, and contains hidden Metal and Earth inside it, which is why 巳 is hotter in a complicated way than its label suggests. 午 is the peak, pure Fire, and the most extreme single character in the cycle. A Fire stem rooted in 午 is as strong as a stem gets; the same stem on 子 — the Water branch directly opposite — is being extinguished and reads as present but unable to hold.
As a day master, Fire is the self expressed. A 丙 day master is described as open, generous, and hard to ignore; a 丁 day master as perceptive, focused, and prone to burning one thing at a time. The caution is the same as for every day master: one character in eight, and the other seven decide how much of it can act.
Stems, branches, and the day master
The stems
丙 yang Fire: the sun, public and broad. 丁 yin Fire: the lamp, focused and precise. The pair is about scale and reach, not about strength.
The branches
巳 the first summer month, yang, mixed with hidden Metal. 午 the peak, yin in polarity but the purest Fire in the cycle. Rooting in either makes a Fire stem strong; 亥 and 子 extinguish it.
As a day master
Read as the self expressed rather than the self held. A 丙 day master wants to be seen; a 丁 day master wants to be understood. What the chart supports decides whether either happens.
The Fire characters

How much weight this carries
This is the most technical page in the set and the most falsifiable: either a chart contains Fire characters or it does not. What is not falsifiable is what those characters mean — that part depends on the practitioner, the school, and the question being asked.

Common questions
How do I know if I am a Fire day master?
By the stem of your day pillar, which requires converting the birth date to the solar calendar. The free calculator on this site does that conversion.
Is 丙 stronger than 丁?
It is broader, not stronger. 丙 is visible from a distance; 丁 does work that 丙 cannot. Which is preferable depends on what the chart needs.
What does it mean to have no Fire in a chart?
That the phase is supplied by luck cycles rather than by the birth chart. It is common and not a defect — charts are read for balance, not for completeness.
