Fire Personality

Fire is the phase of the peak. Where Wood is growth that has not arrived, Fire is the moment something is fully visible — which is why the temperament reads as warmth and presence first, and as volatility only after people have known one for a while.

At a glance

Fire is the phase of the peak: warmth, visibility, and the exhaustion that follows both.

In the classical correspondence tables Fire governs summer and the south, the heart and small intestine, the tongue, and the bitter taste.

How Fire shows up in a person

The mechanism is dispersal. Fire spends itself outward, so the natural state is expressive: talking, hosting, performing, explaining. A Fire-heavy person is usually the one who makes a room work, and the same person is usually exhausted by the end of it in a way that looks like a mood change to everyone else. The phase has no reserve built in; it has to be refilled from outside.

The classical pairing with joy is not the same as happiness. Fire's emotion is the lift you get when something lands — the joke that works, the room that responds, the thing that finally gets seen. That is why Fire charts are often good in public and uncertain in private: the phase is calibrated to response, and a room that does not respond leaves it with nothing to run on.

The failure mode is not anger, which belongs to Wood. It is exposure: saying the thing that did not need saying, giving away more than was asked, and then having no way to take it back. Fire rarely plots. It shows, and then lives with having shown.

Where it helps, where it costs

Where it helps

Warmth, persuasion, and the ability to make an abstract thing feel urgent. Fire is also unusually good at being present — most people are partly elsewhere, and a Fire chart usually is not.

Where it costs

Discretion and stamina. Fire gives away information it did not need to give, and it runs out in the middle of things it started enthusiastically.

How much weight this carries

Temperament attributions are the loosest part of the system. A person whose chart is heavy in Fire often does recognise the pattern, but plenty do not, and the ones who do are usually the ones who were told about it first. Read this as a vocabulary for tendencies, not a personality test.

Common questions

Is a Fire person an extrovert?

Often, but not necessarily. The phase is about expression, and expression can be writing, cooking, or performing for one person. What it is not is hidden.

Why do Fire charts burn out suddenly?

Because the phase has no internal reserve — it is supplied by Wood and spent outward. The crash looks sudden and is usually the end of a long deficit.

What is the Fire temperament's real weak point?

Overexposure: giving away more than the situation can hold, and having no mechanism for taking it back.
