Fire and Wood

Wood feeds Fire, seen from the Fire side. This is the most comfortable of the four relations and the one with the least obvious cost: the flame does not have to do anything to be fed, and that is precisely the problem.

At a glance

Wood feeds Fire: support that feels like one's own energy, and the dependency nobody names.

Fire is generated by Wood.

What Fire does to Wood

A chart in this position is well supplied and does not usually know it. The reading is about dependency rather than about warmth: Fire here is bright because something else is burning, and the phase has no experience of generating its own material. That is fine until the supply changes, at which point the chart does not gradually dim — it goes out.

The other edge is that being fed makes it easy to overdraw. Fire will take as much Wood as is offered, because the relation has no built-in signal for enough. The classical correction is not to refuse the fuel but to notice it: a chart that knows what is feeding it can ration itself, and a chart that does not will spend someone else's reserves without registering the cost.

In a chart, and in a person

In a chart

Favourable when Fire is the useful element and the Wood is rooted. Unfavourable when Fire is already excessive — then the supply is accelerant, and the chart reads as heat with no ceiling.

In a person

You are the one being supported, and it feels like your own energy. The correction is to name the supply out loud, which is uncomfortable and is the only thing that makes rationing possible.

How much weight this carries

Being fed by another element sounds like an advantage and often is, but it has a failure mode: a chart can become dependent on a supply it does not control. The traditional warning is not about weakness but about the cost of the support.

Common questions

Is being fed by Wood always good for Fire?

It is always supportive and not always useful. A chart that already runs hot does not benefit from more fuel.

Why does a well-supported Fire chart still crash?

Because the crash follows the supply, not the flame. When the Wood stops, there is nothing gradual about it.
