Water and Metal

Metal generates Water, seen from the Water side. This is the quietest of the four relations: the supply is structural rather than emotional, and the phase being supported often does not recognise where its capacity comes from.

Metal feeds Water — one step of the generating cycle.

At a glance

Metal generates Water: structure that supplies depth without announcing itself, and drains when the structure is dismantled.

Water is generated by Metal.

What Water does to Metal

A chart in this position is well founded. Metal supplies Water the way a cold surface supplies condensation — not by giving anything up, but by being what it is. In practice this reads as a person whose depth has structure behind it: the understanding is organised, and the reserve is reliable rather than moody.

The cost is that the source is invisible, so it is easy to spend without maintaining. A Metal-Water chart that stops keeping its structure — routine, records, the ordinary apparatus — finds that the depth drains faster than expected, because what looked like a personal quality was actually a system. The classical correction is Earth behind the Metal, which is the same advice as everywhere: support the support.

In a chart, and in a person

In a chart

Favourable in most configurations, since Metal is the cleanest source for Water. The exception is a chart already cold and wet, where the supply makes the stagnation worse.

In a person

You are the one being supplied by structure. The risk is dismantling the structure once it stops being interesting, and then wondering why the depth went.

How much weight this carries

Being fed by another element sounds like an advantage and often is, but it has a failure mode: a chart can become dependent on a supply it does not control. The traditional warning is not about weakness but about the cost of the support.

Common questions

Is Metal feeding Water always good?

It is the cleanest of the four relations. It becomes a problem only in a chart that is already cold and wet.

Why is the source invisible in this pairing?

Because Metal supports by being a surface rather than by giving something up. There is no transaction to notice.
