Who you are when nobody is managing you.
The Life Palace (命宫) is the anchor of the whole chart. Every other palace is read in relation to it, and the star sitting here colours how you open every door in your life — career, marriage, money — before any of those palaces gets a say.
Whichever major star lands in this palace becomes the protagonist of this area of your life. The readings below describe each star's signature here — brightness and neighbouring stars then set the tone.
| Star | In the Life Palace |
|---|---|
| Zi Wei 紫微 | Commanding presence and an early sense of self. Life is organised around position and responsibility rather than exploration. The recurring test is learning to be ordinary with people. |
| Tian Ji 天机 | A quick, unsettled mind and a life with more changes of direction than most. Adaptable, curious, and prone to doubting a conclusion that was already correct. |
| Tai Yang 太阳 | Open, bright and publicly visible, with an instinct to give before being asked. The life is outwardly successful and the private cost is depletion that is rarely discussed. |
| Wu Qu 武曲 | Resolute, independent and capable, with a manner that reads as cool. Life is organised around competence and results; the task is learning to be warm without feeling false. |
| Tian Tong 天同 | Good-natured, well-liked and fortunate, with a tendency to let life happen. The life is comfortable and the question is whether it was chosen. |
| Lian Zhen 廉贞 | Intense, magnetic, principled and complicated. The life is eventful and rarely dull, and much of the management work is about temperature rather than direction. |
| Tian Fu 天府 | Steady, conservative and capable of holding a great deal. Others rely on you early and the life is materially secure; the work is making sure security does not become the whole project. |
| Tai Yin 太阴 | Inward, perceptive and aesthetically precise, with an accumulated rather than projected kind of strength. The life is quieter than it looks from outside and richer in detail than it reads in summary. |
| Tan Lang 贪狼 | Multi-talented, sociable and restless, with a wide range of interests and a persistent gap between potential and completion. The life is rich in experience and uneven in output. |
| Ju Men 巨门 | Articulate, analytical and willing to say the difficult thing. The life involves repeated disputes over words, and the work is learning which battles the sentence is worth. |
| Tian Xiang 天相 | Measured, correct, well-presented and dependable, with a strong instinct for what is appropriate. The life is orderly and the growth is in developing a preference of your own. |
| Tian Liang 天梁 | Steady, protective and weighted with a seniority that arrives early. Life repeatedly resolves in your favour, at the cost of being the person others rely on. |
| Qi Sha 七杀 | Hard, decisive and built for pressure, with a life that involves repeated testing. Capable of extraordinary output and prone to treating ordinary life as a series of contests. |
| Po Jun 破军 | Unconventional, eventful and repeatedly rebuilt. The life is rich in experience and short on continuity, and the work is choosing what to keep rather than what to change. |
The Life Palace is never read alone. A weak star here can be rescued by support from the Career and Wealth palaces; a strong star here can be wasted if the Fortune palace gives it nothing to enjoy.
Brightness matters more here than anywhere else. The same star, dim, produces the frustration version of its own promise.
If no major star occupies the palace, readers borrow the opposing Travel Palace — you become, in a sense, who you are away from home.
Zi Wei needs a precise birth hour. BaZi is the easier place to begin — four pillars, ten gods and element balance from your birth data.
