Fire Colours
Fire's colour is 赤, the red of blood and flame rather than the red of paint. The classical range runs from a deep vermilion to a brownish scarlet, and it is deliberately not the bright primary red that modern colour charts assign to the element.

At a glance
Fire's colour is 赤 — vermilion, the red of seal paste and lacquer, not the bright primary red of modern charts.
In the classical correspondence tables Fire governs summer and the south, the heart and small intestine, the tongue, and the bitter taste.
Why Fire is red
The distinction matters because the two reds do different work. Vermilion is the colour of lacquerware, seal paste, and temple gates — a red with weight in it, used for marking what is official and what is auspicious. Primary red is a signal colour, and in a Fire-heavy chart it is a dose of exactly what the chart already has too much of.
In application the tradition uses 赤 sparingly and usually in small ritual objects: a seal, a thread, a border, a single garment. The logic is the same as for all five colours — repetition in ordinary places rather than area covered — and it is the reason Chinese red shows up in details rather than in whole rooms.
Where it goes wrong is when red becomes the dominant colour of a space occupied by someone with excess Fire. That is the correspondence applied in the wrong direction, and the traditional reading of a red bedroom is not romantic but restless.
How the colour is used
How the colour is used
Small, deliberate, and often functional: a seal, a ribbon, a single wall in a room used for gathering. Fire colour is a marker, and markers lose meaning when everything is marked.
Where it goes wrong
As a dominant colour in sleeping or resting spaces, or applied to a chart that is already hot. Both turn a signal into an instruction to keep going.

How much weight this carries
Colour correspondences are the most usable part of the system and the least metaphysical: they are a convention, and conventions work by being shared. Wearing red does nothing on its own. It does something when the person wearing it is paying attention to what it is for.

Common questions
Why is Chinese red so common at weddings?
Because 赤 is the colour of the phase that is fully visible, and a wedding is a moment meant to be seen. It is a contextual use, not a permanent recommendation.
Is red lucky?
In this system nothing is lucky in itself. Red is the Fire correspondence, which is auspicious where Fire is needed and agitating where it is not.
What is the difference between 赤 and 紅?
赤 is the classical term tied to the five-element correspondence; 紅 is the ordinary word and covers a wider, brighter range. Fire's colour is the first.
