Wood in Dreams
In the classical dream typology Wood shows up as forests and trees, and separately as dreams of anger. The two are listed in the same passage of the Inner Canon for a reason: both are read as the phase being active in a body that is asleep, once as image and once as emotion.

At a glance
In the classical dream typology Wood appears as forests and trees, and as dreams of anger.
In the classical correspondence tables Wood governs spring and the east, the liver and gallbladder, the eyes, and the sour taste.
Wood in dream imagery
The traditional claim is specific enough to quote: when liver qi is abundant, a person dreams of anger; when something lodges in the liver, they dream of forests and trees. Read as diagnosis this is thin. Read as a description of what a person under pressure actually dreams about, it is more accurate than it has any right to be — the anger dreams and the forest dreams tend to arrive in the same stretches of life.
The motifs that recur across the dream literature are growth, obstruction, and breakage. A tree that will not stop growing, a path through woods that keeps closing, a branch that snaps, a plant in a pot too small for it — the common structure is a living thing meeting a limit. Wood dreams are rarely about the limit itself; they are about the pressure of the thing pushing against it.
How to read them depends on what else is in the dream. A forest entered willingly reads differently from a forest that will not let you out, and a growing plant reads differently from a cut one. The classical manuals disagree with each other more on dreams than on anything else in the system, which is a useful warning: treat these as prompts for the dreamer's own association rather than as a dictionary entry.
Motifs that recur
Motifs that recur
Trees and forests, sprouting and overgrowth, being lost among plants, broken branches, small containers, and anger that has no target in the dream.
How to read it
Ask whether the dream is about growth or about the obstacle. If the image is the plant, the question is what is trying to grow; if the image is the container, the question is what is holding it.

How much weight this carries
Dream symbolism is the most personal layer and the least rule-bound. The same image means different things depending on what else is in the dream, and the classical dream manuals disagree with each other more than the chart manuals do. Use these as prompts, not definitions.

Common questions
What does it mean to dream of a forest?
In the classical reading, an excess of the Wood phase or pressure lodged in the liver. In practice, most people dream of forests when something in waking life has become too large to see the edges of.
Why do I dream about being angry?
The Inner Canon assigns anger dreams to abundant liver qi. The useful version of the claim is that unexpressed irritation tends to surface as a dream before it surfaces in speech.
Are tree dreams about growth?
Sometimes. The image is ambiguous on purpose: a tree can be the thing growing or the thing in the way, and the dream usually tells you which by how you feel about it.
