Seven Killings (七杀) is one of the ten gods of BaZi. Seven Killings is the controlling element in the same polarity as your day master — the same relationship as Direct Officer with the legitimacy stripped out. It is pressure that does not ask permission: competition, risk, deadlines, hard opponents and hard years.
What Seven Killings means
七杀 is often translated as something more sinister than it deserves. The relationship is simple: whatever controls your day master, in your own polarity, is Seven Killings. Where Direct Officer is authority you have agreed to, Seven Killings is force you have to negotiate with. It is easiest to understand as the god of the difficult situation.
The classical warning about Seven Killings is about intensity rather than morality. Charts with the god prominent describe people who are used to operating under load — competitive environments, high-stakes decisions, adversarial work. The problem is not that the pressure is bad; it is that the same person often cannot function without it and will manufacture a crisis in a calm period.
